The appointment at Lingotto has gradually seen the growth of a mature public, which identifies itself in the values of an active culture and wants to take part in a real discussion, feeling itself a player in interactive exchange. The participation of the visitors has made visible an explicit demand for democracy no longer delegated, but participatory, managed first hand.
The International Book Fair of Torino celebrates its twenty fifth anniversary in 2012. Created from an idea of Guido Accornero and Angelo Pezzana, a historic Torino bookseller, on the model of the Paris Salon, overcoming it in terms of the wealth and variety of contents and the number of visitors, reaching the peak of European events in the sector.
To tell the story of these twenty five years in a lively and unconventional fashion, and at the same time give a glimpse of the metropolis that will come, the International Book Fair and the Circolo dei lettori have joined their forces and created the project for La Città Visibile, the Visible City. Torino 1988-2012 >>, in the sense of fast forward.
After Amos Oz in 2010, the Spanish author Javier Cercas won the second edition of the International Book Fair of Turin Prize with 2,388 votes (38% of voters). Second was the Algerian Assia Djebar with 2,136 votes, 34%, and third came the Indian Anita Desai with 1,749 votes, equivalent to 28 %.
The 2011 Fair closes with an extremely positive balance for Russia, that brought to Torino (at the Fair and outside) witnesses of the 20th century and emerging authors to tell the story of how a civilisation always at the centre of geopolitical scenarios is changing.
